Tile Progress- Woodard

Happy Friday!!!! It’s a big day here in Houston- the Astros have won their very first World Series, which honestly could not have happened at a better time after dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey for the past few months. So cool to see how a single sporting event can change the mood and energy of a city. We thought about going down to the parade today, but decided that fighting for a spot with 500k of our closest friends wasn’t how we wanted to spend our Friday. Many of the schools even cancelled class today!! Crazy!!! BUT the good thing is I have now managed to carve out a few minutes to sit down and right this blog so another week doesn’t slip through my fingers without a blog post.

Last week I shared the last of the design plans for one of the spec houses I’m designing, and today I have some of the tile progress that’s happening.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen a little sneak peak of this, but the mini herringbone backsplash is up in the kitchen and I absolutely adore it. Everything is very neutral throughout the house, so this felt like the perfect place to add a little touch of character without going too taste specific. **Please excuse the sub-par iPhone pictures... professional ones soon to follow. 

On the fireplace, we’ve added a light-colored stacked stone, which is also being used on the exterior pillars. The stair treads + railings were just installed and have really transformed the look of the space.

While you don't typically put railing on both sides of the stairs, we had to on this bottom section because of it being open on the right side and because the top staircase railing had to be on the left side. It felt and looked strange to not have the railing be continuous. 

You can get a better feel for the size of the kitchen from this view, although you're missing the whole left side that has the sink + dishwasher. The island pendant lights will be going up soon! 

In the first-floor bathroom, we kept the basket weave tile as originally planned, but changed the shower wall tile to a beveled glass for a little more drama. The single light will look fantastic centered over the round black + brass mirror, which will be hung next week.

The tile work was just underway in the two secondary bathrooms upstairs, but we’re pleased with the countertops and lights so far.

The master bathroom is taking on the light, bright spa vibe we were going for. The marble hexagon floor + accent band in the shower compliment the countertops perfectly. The large subway tile has the slightest unevenness to the edge, giving it some added character. 

The vanities are split in the master bathroom.

The wood floors are currently being installed (so happy I switched to a lighter color last minute) and the grout on the tile work is being finished up. 

Next week the cabinet + door hardware is being installed, as well as a few other punch list items, but we're getting so close to listing this beautiful home!!! 

Master Bathroom- Woodard

It’s a great Monday today because we are waking up to fall temperatures!!! I don’t want to jinx it but I think Fall has finally settled in to stay here in Houston. We were able to open our windows over the weekend, which is such a rarity in the South because of our insane humidity here, BUT we hit the holy grail- cool mornings, mild days + low humidity. HEAVEN!!!

I'm back today sharing the final design plan for the spec home in the Lindale Park neighborhood on Woodard Street. Last time I shared the two secondary bathrooms upstairs, and today is all about the master bathroom. I knew from the beginning that I wanted this space to feel spa-like and to be light + dominantly white. I assumed I would use a white subway tile on the shower walls, but I also didn’t want just a standard tile since this is the master bathroom. I found a 4x12” artisan subway tile that has this beautiful uneven edge that gives each tile a little character. 

To up the wow factor, and to compliment the Carrara Marble counters, I brought in a marble hex for the shower floor + a mini marble brick accent band for the shower walls. The floors are a 12x24” faux Limestone-look ceramic tile.

I chose brushed nickel, wide-spread faucets for the sinks + tub for a classic look. 

To prevent the space from feeling too matched, and to add a little warmth, I’m bringing in a few brass accents (this also connects back to the first floor bathroom). Brass bath light fixtures + cabinet hardware. The silver mirrors also has a small brass detail tying everything together.

I’m really pleased with how this home is coming together, and need to share updated construction pictures because it’s really been transformed in the last few weeks. After the walls were painted I decided it needed something else, so I had all the white interior doors painted gray (if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen this picture). They made such a big difference and brought a custom touch without going too taste specific.

Secondary Bathrooms- Woodard

Welcome back from the weekend and welcome to October! This is the time of year that I miss living in Iowa most- the change of seasons, harvest, and crisp mornings, warm days and cool evenings. We did have a small glimpse of fall this weekend, which was enough for me to give myself permission to go buy mums + pumpkins for my front porch… even if it’s supposed to be back in the 90s this week. I just received a few fall-scented oils that I ordered so I’ve been diffusing those and managed to switch out my summer chalkboard art for a fall one. So regardless if it’s still summer in Houston, it’s fall ya'll at the Pudenz house!!!

Work has been rolling right along and I have some REALLY exciting news about my business that I can hardly wait to share! Hopefully will be able to post about it here later this week if everything goes as planned.

Last time I shared the kitchen + first floor bathroom for a spec home that I’m working on. My goal for this home is to keep it light and bright with a cohesive flow throughout, which is dominantly gray + white with a few darker accents. There are two secondary bathrooms upstairs- one connected to the game room and a Jack & Jill bathroom between two bedrooms. I decided to keep these spaces basically the same except for the mirrors and lighting.

Both bathrooms feature a gray hexagon floor with a pale gray high gloss subway tile on the shower walls, which offers contrast from the very pale greige walls + white cabinets. The under-mount sinks are set in white granite countertops with a light gray veining throughout the slab. I selected brushed nickel faucets throughout all the bathrooms in this home. 

The Jack and Jill bathroom is sort of long and narrow so I liked the idea of breaking that up by using two round metal mirrors with a contemporary 2-light fixture above each.

I used a dark metal mirror in the game room bathroom as well, but chose to use a rectangle with an interesting frame detail with a brushed nickel 3-light fixture above.

I think both spaces feel classic, but with a modern, industrial twist. 

I’ve saved the best for last and will be sharing the master bathroom plan next week. I went a little more high-end with the tile selections and it’s going to be a beautiful space once it's completed. Painting will wrap this week and the countertops are currently being fabricated and should be installed soon. After that will be tile and flooring. Always a fun push these last few weeks in any home! Will hopefully have more progress pics for next time as well.
